The Netherlands is known for its all things bizarre. The recent quiz show from the TV channel VPRO was no exception to the rule (stereotype?).
Weg van Nederland (translate double meaning: Away from the Netherlands and Adoring the Netherlands) was a one-off quiz show where five asylum seekers competed for a €4,000 prize. All of the contestants are high educated students who have to leave the country any moment now.
The idea behind the show was to re-start a discussion on the Dutch asylum procedures.But in fact while it gathered lots of media attention across the globe (and some in the Netherlands), it failed to get the Dutch talking.
